A Geographic Information System (GIS) is a tool used to
assemble, store, manipulate, analyze, and display information about objects and
events on the earth. Global Positioning Systems (GPS) & aerial photography is
used by our office to pinpoint locations and store data for use in our mapping systems.

Go to the Lincoln Parish Communication District office
(located in the old Federal Post Office building at
201 N. Vienna St.
in
Ruston, LA.
; at the corner of
Mississippi Ave.
and
Vienna St
) to fill out an application or call 318-513-6450. If you are outside of a
municipality you will need a “rural development permit". To apply for this permit
you will need to bring a filed legal description of your property with you. If you
do not have a copy of your legal description, you may obtain a copy from the Clerk of Court, located in the Lincoln Parish Court House. This permit is required
by the parish and the Federal Emergency Management
Association (FEMA), and there is no charge for this permit. Once you
have given the information required about your structure, a member from the 911
Office will go out and GPS the structures location & measure the distance to
the nearest intersection in order to calculate an address. They will then
call to notify you of your new address, as well as mail you an official letter of
notification for your records. This process usually takes between 24 – 48 hours.
- Please
do not forget to bring the proper documents, as this will drastically slow the process!
